Is it normal to be afraid of tampons, help!!

Since i'v had my periods i'v been using pads and i am just tired of them now,i just cant do what i want to do because of the weird feeling i always have.(girls will know what i mean). I am 22 now,and I did try to use a tampon but then got scared because of the stories that i have heard that the tampon gets stuck or that you cant find the thread. I would realy be thankful if girls who use tampons could help me with this.

I'm 21 and STILL can't use 'em lol. Ultra thin overnight/heavy pads for me lol

I think that at some point in their life every girl is terrified of the mighty tampon.

I sure as hell was. That and mom didn't help very much... She just said, "god you baby suck it, you're going to have to get a penis in there one day and that is going to be a hell of a lot bigger!"

Anywho I got over my fear, and they are quite safe. Yet I still find them rather annoying and awkward so I don't ever use them. Instead I take that kind of birth control where you only get your period once every 3 month, and they're generally so light that I can just fold up a piece of toilet and leave it there. Safe, protected, and unnoticeable :D

Yea so I hoped my ramblings helped xD

Yeah that's totally normal!! I've felt like this for a while, and I just started using them yesterday! It took me like 2 hours to get my first one in, then an hour, and then I switched back to pads just to be on the safe side. I'm not like a master of tampons or anything, but here's my advice:
-Don't be afraid to use them :D
-All those TSS warnings were from years ago and it's really not a big deal now. I think like 40 people died in the 1980's, and you should be fine unless you leave it in for like a day.
-For me, it really didn't hurt going in. Just make sure you aim it right (towards the small of your back, not straight up. About 45ish degrees)
-It does kind of hurt taking it out for the first time, but it doesn't last long and it's not that bad. You just gotta keep tugging!
-The string is on there pretty good, just make sure it's not sticking out anywhere and you should be fine. Even if it does get stuck (which it more than likely won't) then there are tons of people who know how to get it out.
-Try putting it in when your flow is heavy. It'll slide in easier. Your hands will get messy, but don't worry! You'll wash it all off after :D
-Buy ones with a plastic applicator that has a rounded top.
-I know this sounds kinda silly, but if you don't know where your vagina is yet, then try sticking your finger up there. It's in the *far* back. Then try to aim the tampon there.

I say try it out a few times and see what you like. I hate pads too, but I surprisingly didn't like using a tampon that much. It seriously took me 2 hours to get my first one in, but you've just gotta be patient and if you think you're getting too frustrated, just take a deep breath and calm down, or try again later.

Hope I helped!! Oh and you probably shouldn't use tampons *all* the time. Alternating between tampons and pads is a good idea :D

No need to be scared. They're unlikely to get stuck for no reason. I once had one stuck unknowingly for a couple of days but there was a simple explanation for it: a yoga headstand posture that is not recommended during a period. As soon as I realized, I got it out. There's no way they can get lost in there lol.

I have never used a pad. Just the idea of It freaks me out way more than a tampon. I've been dealing with periods for 9+ years now, and have yet to have a single problem, and I've used just about every brand out there. You will be fine. Just read the directions that cone in the box. Know the possible side effects, but don't let them scare you too bad. Really once you get used to them, you'll probably never buy a pad again.

i'm 16 and i've been using them for like 2 years now, you shouldn't be scared just make sure you put it in properly and use the right absorbancy strength and it may feel a little weird at first but soon you'll forget it's there, in my opinion its much better than pads! :)

Use plastic ones, they're so much more comfortable. The cardboard ones Hurt me. Anyways they will not get stuck there is a very small chance it could happen.

Also the cardboard ones are earth friendly. They break up in the water. Plastic is plastic forever.

I used cardboard. I once tried the plastic lined ones and I got a horrible reaction. Let's just say sex was out of the question for 2 months.

I think they're okay to use, but plastic ones are a lot easier to insert because they're smoother and slide in better.

I've never had a tampon stuck in me. If you use a tampon just once you'll realize how unlikely it is to lose the string.
