Is it normal to be afraid of plant roots?

Whenever I have to get close to or touch exposed plant roots, I freak out. Just seeing it in a picture will make me nervous. I don't have much of a problem with big tree roots above the ground, just roots that should stay underground.
I've had nightmares where roots grew out of the ground really fast and started sucking the life out of people. The roots also bound themselves around people and strangled them.

I don't have a fear, more like an uncomfortable irrational disgust for small stringy roots that you'd see when transferring a new plant to a pot. I can handle tree roots or carrots/potatoes just fine. I think it is fairly similar to Trypophobia which also makes my uncomfortable.

Roots look like fingers. They look like long, crooked, gaunt, gnarled, mummy-like, disfigured, bony, warped, absolutely hideous fingers. The unhealthy-looking, tangled, bent wood reminds me of ruin and decay and uncleanness, and I feel almost physically sick when I even picture it in my mind. Ugh.

It's a phobia. I can kind of see where you are coming from with this, though I don't consider myself having a phobia of roots.

First time I've read or heard about anybody else with this problem. I've had it for as long as I can remember, but with the help of therapy and mostly willpower I can now handle things like carrots and potatos and enjoy a walk through the forest without to much discomfort, at least as long as I stick to the paths. As with many things in life, I find it has become easier to handle with the years, hopefully you guys with the same problem will find it easier with time as well.

I've had it since second grade. I call it rhizophobia. I used to have recurring dreams as a child about trying to escape from an underground tunnel where there were roots but the fear didn't start until a few years later. Before that I loved gardening, now I can't even pick up a potted plant. I can't stand to touch roots and have a hard time even looking at them. I really have to psych myself up to handle carrots and potatoes. I can't stand swimming in seaweed because of its resemblance to roots. The roots of water lilies and willow trees are the worst. Oh, I can't handle vines that grow with hairlike tendrils either. So while it may not be common, you're not the only one.

It's definitely an irrational fear lol. Idk if it's normal but it sounds pretty absurd to me

  • The way is shut. They're coming for you.

And no not normal. What could compel to fear something that can't even move is beyond me.

I cannot identify with this. I love plants. If I were wrapped in roots, I would take its energy-not the other way around.

It's not a fear I've heard of, but there are all kinds of fears out there. I don't think it's a big deal.
