Is it normal to be afraid of death every night?

Every night for the past four years I think about death and I am becomming a Christian but I still have that hole where I keep thinking after death there is just nothing like what happens. And I will always get so scared and I'd get nauteous just thinking about it. Is it normal to think this way every night

Why are you becoming a Christian? You make it sound like you're gonna try a new hobby or check out a new game lol.
If you're just seeking comfort or whatever I would suggest you just continue getting to know yourself a bit more and maybe research and learn about some of the many other ideas about life that are out there...and then question all of that and find your own conclusions.
Whatever "IT" really is, we're all in the same boat. Good luck.

Death is an unknown and scary concept for obvious reasons and, as a species, we are instinctively afraid of the unknown.

It's a difficult thing to accept, that all one has worked for and striven to do with their life can be wiped out in an instant when the brain fails and the synapses stop firing.

From my experiences, having a religion does little to nothing to alleviate these fears and in almost every case I have seen to date, BECOMING religious makes the fear of death WORSE.

I wish I had some advice for you, I really do, but it's just something that I have found rationalization rather than religion has helped.

I hope you manage to find a way to deal with your fears, I know when I was first dealing with these fears and concerns as well as separating myself from my then beliefs in religion.

It helps in a weird kind of way.

I used to drive myself crazy with those thoughts. I've noticed that by drawing my attention from the abstract to my immediate surroundings,I could reduce the feeling of anxiety. It becomes more difficult to think about infinite nothingness when you are looking at a lamp, or a doorknob.I also pay attention to my breathing and heartbeat, it calms me to think that for as long as I can fear death, I will have a heartbeat to remind me that I am still alive. Finally, have you listened to loud dubstep recently? Try imagining yourself in a room with complete and true silence after the bass drops. I find it to be impossible. I think there's a parallel between this exercise and imagining death while you are... thinking. You can know that whatever "silence" you imagine during dubstep noises is certainly NOT true silence, and whatever "death" you imagine while conscious is certainly NOT true death. So, it could give you some comfort knowing that whatever it is you imagined that is giving you nausea is nothing like death: if it scares you, then you have nothing to worry about, because it cannot be death.

I hope this doesn't make things worse.

Death happens, we've all been scared of it before, but we have to accept it and not let it rule our daily lives, or sleep schedules.

If it makes you feel any better; death comes to us all, we all have to come to terms with it sooner or later. Everyone is in the same boat, whether they are into religion or not.
