Is it normal to be afraid of death?

I am affraid of dying. Not affraid not the pain, but of everything that will happen -after- my death, the infinity, I feel great anxietey. I beleive that after dying, there is absolutely nothing, just like before being born. IIN?

To tell you the truth, I find myself thinking the same way. I wish there was some way to know there was atleast SOMETHING after death. I think it would be horrible if I just ceased to exist in some way or form. I believe feeling nothing at all is the absolute worse thing that could happen to somebody. I'd rather feel pain than feel nothing at all. And while I do hope death isn't the absolute end, I don't think you should worry yourself over this. It just happens to be something I think about when I'm bored.....

I have panic attacks with a strange feeling in my chest or stomach whenever i think about inevitable death...the nothingness...i once had a really bad episode in front of my parents but since then i don't show it to them coz of course they are older than me and i don't want them to think about it. i'm also scared of losing my parents due to this and there i times that i just can't think straight...i'm afraid of discussing this with others as i may cause them the same pain that i'm feeling...some people that i have discussed this with take it quite casually...i wish i could be as normal..i do not believe in the concept of life after death and though i liked reading all the posts above, they weren't much help :( i'm scared that if i get close to someone and discuss it they may think that i'm immature..i've had these feelings for 4-5 years and i'm 26 yrs old...

i try to pacify myself by thinking that its not just me but everyone's gonna die and reading books, listening to music when i start thinking about it but sometimes it helps but sometimes its not...aarrrgh

Death should not be feared, but welcomed. It will take you to a better place.

If there is nothing after death, for what purpose does this life have? You might as well kill yourself right now because if there really is nothing than everything you have done will be void, forgotten, and meaningless.

I think it's a little healthier to think that at least SOMETHING is waiting for you after you die.

It is normal. People are scared of death because they aren't ready to die. They have so much they want to accomplish. They have so much they don't want to leave behind. So many reasons behind being afraid of death are all known but not seen. Understanding that life will always come to an end will help you cope with the circle of life but won't defer that fear from it.

It is normal to be afraid if the unknown. I think most of us for one reason or another are afraid of death. However, it would not be normal if you were constantly thinking about it.

K, bracing for a fall doesn't make it hurt any less, so what's the point? No one wants pain. But there are a thousand ways to die! The body will go into shock, it won't recall or feel so don't freak. And if your passing is illness, there are loads of drugs, you would never suffer.

  • Look, I think its weird. I fear the pain. Not death itself. But because when dead I feel Exacly the same as you, nothing. Therefor no more to worry about. And I'm not saying I hate my life, I mean I love my life, but its jus better then feeling the pain of dying

Well did you know or feel anything before you were born? No. So if you dont believe in an after life, its the same thing. You wont know or feel anything. You just wont exist.

We don't have to be afraid of death. I know where I am going when I die. The reason Jesus died on the cross was for our sins and the reason He rose on the 3rd day was to DEFEAT death. When we believe in Him, and commit our lives to Him, we will simply leave our earthly body and join Him in Heaven. Much like a catepillars turns into a butterfly. Death is our metamorphosis. A lot of people will comment negatively on this post of mine and that is their right. However, wouldn't you rather be safe than sorry?
