Is it normal to be afraid of an automatic car wash?

I've been afraid of the automatic car washes for as long as I can remember. As a child I would stand alone in the parking lot as my family went through the car wash, I remember being terrified they wouldn't come out safe. Once I started driving I never went through the automatic car wash, would only use manual car washes. I finally faced the fear as an adult and have gotten somewhat used to some car washes, but still refuse to go through some of them. Absolutely refuse to use any car wash that seems to grab the car and pull it through. Will use some auto car washes now, but always feel a tinge of panic regardless. Where would this kind of fear come from? Is it normal??

    Don't even feel bad! I have an awful fear of the car wash! I don't think mine is so much being pulled through....as much as it is the monster like octopus tentacles that go over the car in the most unnatural kind of way....and then the spinning wheels of death that beat on the sides....no thank you! Okay, so maybe my fear isn't that dramatic ;) but I still hate the car wash! It's the noodles that clean the car that freak me out for whatever reason...no idea why they just always have. My mom told me I used to cry going through the car wash when I was little...you would think I would have out grown such an abstract fear though, hmmm guess not! It was never too much of a problem, even after I started driving though...just avoid them, why do I even need a car wash? It's just gonna get dirty again anyways right? Well, I just got a very nice, new vehicle this past week and finally understand why I would want a car wash! There's no way I'm gonna let the salt from the winter roads ruin my new beauty! So...today gotta go through one alone. :( So, wish me luck! We'll see how this goes....

    I never use automatic washes. They can damage the finish. Only touchless washes for my baby! As for do I mind going (In lets say somebody else's car), then no. I actually find them somewhat fun.

    When you were young, going through an auto wash with the windows up, someone probably released a caustic fart. Instant traumatization.

    I used to be scared yet excited about going through them as a kid O.o they kinda freak me out even more now though and tanning beds D: final destination? scary shit.

    It's normal for some people. I have the same fear. I will use the automatic washes, but I still have a worry something could go wrong during the process. It's a machine, and sometimes machines mess up. If a carnival ride can fail with all it's safety features, so can a car wash. You can't live your life on fear though..you have more chance getting hurt in your own home than a car wash.
