Is it normal to be "addicted" to orange juice?

For about three months I've been drinking about 1 liter of orange juice everyday, I don't know why I got this sudden craving but is it healthy? I don't drink water at all either, only orange juice and occasionally milk. Is there any harm in this or am I fine?

Hah, I love it when people make comments that stimulate the imagination. And for some reason I imagined you were a Zaphod Beeblebrox with a Borat moustache.

There's no harm in it although you may want to chew gum or use mouthwash afterwards. Fruit acids attack the teeth. I love orange juice too but I deliberately vary which fruit juice I drink because each fruit has a different makeup of vitamins and varying fruits gives you some balance over time. Personal favourite is probably tomato juice (twice as much vitamin C as orange juice, but sadly has added salt) and pomegranate juice (yummy stuff, and good for you).

        Dear Curious Peel,

You need to watch for the code words. I start every reply one of three ways. The most common is "I think..." which means I think rather than I know. Sometimes I say "I don't know much about this but..." which means I don't know much about it and anything I say should be listened to but isn't necessarily true. And then there are the things I say as fact. They're the things I think are fact but may not be true either.

Never listen to anyone who implies what they say is definitely true. Nothing is definitely true.

        Regards,
        dappled

          Dear Dappled,
I noticed you start your comments "I think.." etc but the contents of the comment is quite impressive, even for someone who isnt knowledgeable on the topic in question. I am aware that nothing is deffinately true except for a few facts which everyone knows.

Im just curious on how you can be knowledgeable on most subjects whether you know what your saying to be truth or just a mere Speculation. I find it intriguing.. ;)

            Dear Curious Peel,

If I say "I think", it's only what I think. Honestly. It isn't strictly right. Don't put any stock in it. My job is about knowing things about things in general and I've done okay so far (by the seat of my pants). Don't trust everything I say just because I say it. It may be wrong. Do your research and prove me wrong.

I'm a generalist. I'm interested in absolutely everything and I do enough research to sound like I know what I'm talking about. A specialist would screw me, though. I just know a bit about most things. :)

            Sincerely,
            dappled x

              Dear Dappled,
Cheers for clearing that up but isnt it a little bit sad that you research things before you comment? ;) made me giggle though. Im glad your modest though, I'm sure a specialist would screw us all ;) hehe :)

You'd be so much better off buying a juicer and making your own orange juice. Not only is orange juice incredibly expensive ($6.??) but like most juice, it is pasteurised. Pasteurisation takes away some of the nutrients that you would get from an unadulterated orange. You aren't getting the full nutrient picture!

I would say it's not entirely normal, orange juice is great for your body for vitamins two glasses a day at least but everyday? Hmm, that sounds weird.

If I had to guess I'd say your addicted to the sugar in it. I suppose as long as you squeeze it yourself it's fine, but store-bought OJ is not very healthy as it contains a ton of sugar.

I don't know of any OJ company adding sugar to their juice. It's already so sweet it'd be pointless. Therefore squeezing yourself would be the same thing.

  • Not good to consume so much vitamin c plus the high intake of sugar will turn you diabetic

Omg what the fuck. Believe me or not. Been addicted to Orange juice for about 5 years. I am really glad I am not that only one. Sometime if I don't have it for more then 2 days, I end up walking to the store which is 15 min away. It like a drug anything can be like a drug if your addicted to it.

if you squeeze the juice urself no problem, else is almost like drinking a ltr of coke daily, which is bad.

Like Ono said, lots of sugar. May want to consider that. Over the long term your body may not react well to that. Maybe start throwing in some water

Be aware many fruit juices contain added sugar, sometimes quite a lot. Oranges can have quite a strong laxative effect on some people as well. A fresh orange and a glass of water is better, but like with most things, if it's in moderation then it's fine.
