Is it normal to be addicited to cigarettes but also still love them?

I don't want to give them up they're my favorite ever! It's my choice right? But still people say I shouldn't do it because it will kill me but the thing is I don't care if It kills me and I don't think I need help...... Comment please

  • Problem is u don't always die from it. A lot of times u just lose half of ur face and neck, have a stroke and is a half vegetable, lose ur voice box and have a hole in ur neck. If death was a certainty who cares we'll all die eventually. Problem is, death is not the only possible outcome. Or u could live to b 90 and smoke everyday and not have any problems. So either play Russian roulette or get on chantix already.

I used to love them too, i had them wherever i went, whatever i did. Been smoking 10 cigarettes up to a pack a day for 5 years straight. The "buzz" is indescribable to a non-smoker.
I only realised how horrible they really are after i quit. I began having a yellow/brown mucus-filled cough that wouldn't go away, stuffy nose ALL the time, had trouble breathing (the lightest exercise possible made me pant). The day i felt the worst - a crushing pain in my chest with every breath, when i literally felt like i couldn't take a full breath anymore - i decided i quit for good. After the first month, i smelled cigarette smoke again because of a smoker, and... it truly smells horrible. I took a puff once for my curiosity - it burned horribly, the taste, the smell was awful and wouldnt go away easily, the buzz was gone and i saw it for what it is... SHIT, you're inhaling shit. It's been 4 months, never touched one again, and never will.

yeah i understand. i used to smoke because i wanted to, not because i was addicted. i quit on new years and i feel so much better within myself but i have noticed other smokers now and i hate it. my boss smokes a pack a day and since i quit, i have noticed his horrific smokers gag/cough.... he uses the excuse that there is hooping cough going around at the moment but just hearing him gag all the fucking time just makes me want to vomit. its the more horrific thing to have to listen to all the fucking time and it has really helped me to not take up smoking again because i sure as fuck dont want to be like that one day.

It's difficult to explain to a non-smoker the "catch" at the back of the throat when you inhale. I do know that nicotine is one of the fastest acting drugs, though (6-7 seconds) so it's entirely possible that what we feel is not a physical pleasure but a narcotic one (as howaminotmyself says).

I gave up but I still think about them sometimes. It's tough. You'll give up when you want to. Until you do, you might as well think you enjoy it. I know I thought I did.

I love french fries but I don't need them every day, or even every week.

The body doesn't want the smoke or the chemicals, it's the addiction. You do not "love" it, the nicotine has confused your brain into thinking that you need it, but you don't.

Smoke as much as you want but don't delude yourself into thinking you made the choice of your own free will. (okay the first couple weeks of smoking is free will but after that...)

2 favorite things: coffee and a cigarette, and nice weather and a cigarette.

I love just reflecting on life with introspection while having an enjoyable cigarette. Or whilst listening to a good tune.

If you want cancer then so be it and I'll just go on and enjoy my cigarette free life! Lmao.

For being (supposedly) one of the most addicting chemicals there is, I've seen a whole damn lot of people (including myself) say that the physical addiction is negligible. That smoking is mostly out of habit or therapy (stress relief). Some like to claim that the stress relief is merely the product of temporarily sating your physical addiction, but at least with me that's not the case. I never get the urge to smoke unless I'm stressed or it plays into habit. By that I mean doing things I associate with smoking, like drinking, for one.

I smoke. I know it's killing me and I'll quit when I get cancer. :)

It is your choice to smoke. Even if you are addicted, it is still your choice to let that addiction have control over a small part of you. If you thought you needed help with it, then it would be your choice to quit. It is just that sometimes your will is not strong enough, and therefore you do not truly want to quit. Addiction does not take away your free will. Trust me, if I could get away with it, I would still be shooting junk, but some times the consequence out weighs that which we want to do...But really, in the end, it is your choice.....Now, time to light a smoke. =D

I'm not addicted to ciggarettes but I think this is normal because that's kind of what an addiction is, right? If you like them you should be able to do them

I'm smoking right now. On my 3rd :) Smoking and IIN go hand in hand for me. Oh I just got into those electric cigs BTW. Not bad. Still don't get the same satisfaction as the real thing though but might be something you might wanna check out. You can smoke in bars with them and even on a plane or movie theater :) Alot healthier too.
