Is it normal to be absolutely terrified of losing immediate family?

I hysterically burst into tears anytime I so much as think about anything happening to my parents or siblings. I feel like I'd need to be on suicide watch if one of parents passed. My entirOf course I understand that life would go on and it's all a part of living. I'm 25. Mature. Well-adjusted and totally mentally stable. It's just this one thing that I've been deathly afraid of since I was a teenager that complete knocks my world off balance.

  • If you feel that your grief would be that overwhelming (more overwhelming than average), then perhaps you should ask yourself (not just us) why that is.

Parents are supposed to teach their children to live without their constant presence and aid, so that one day the children can carry on without them. What happened to you?

'thisissomuchfun' is a fucking idiot. It has nothing to do with your parents not raising you correctly. They are obviously just really important to you, like a best friend would be, and you are scared to lose them. Losing a parent is nothing like losing a dog or something, which is the kinda thing we might be taught to deal with as children.

If they don't answer the phone or are home late, or they drive on the icy roads without me, or if my mom goes to church on Christmas eve really late hen I think something has happened or that it isn't safe.

I forgot to say that I have always had the same problem as you and I think it's just that I love my parents so much and it will suck when they die. Thing is it's gonna happen no matter what and everyone has to deal with it sometime, it's just that some people are better at it than others. And people like you and me think about it ahead of time, which is not at all a bad thing. If you want to get help go to a psychologist.
