Is it normal to be able to crack your ribs ?

My 6th and 7th rib bone on the right side are able to sort of crack in a way. If I push them sort of hard, they kind of pop and one goes in front and makes a sound like when you crack your knuckles. It doesn't hurt at all but I can feel it. I've been able to do this for a couple years now. I don't do it often but I usually show people that I can do it and they all think its weird. I don't even have To push them, when i take a deep deep breath it happens to and also when i reach my arms above my head to stretch. I'm just wondering if that's normal or should I go get it checked out ?

I was always under the impression that 'cracking' your knuckles or whatever is from the joint and not the bone. How would the rib be able to do this? There isn't a joint connecting it.

I don't mean literally cracking, but it makes the sound and feels like it is cracking, but I'm pretty sure one slides forward and is on top (makes the popping sound) then when it pops back the other one will be on top

That sounds really strange. Not sure if it's a bad sign of anything or harmless.

My fingers, legs, arms and shoulders pop every time I move.

  • Not normal. It sounds like you broke them a while back and they didnt heal right. You can break your ribs without thinking you broke them.

Wouldn't that have hurt at all though? I don't remember even once thinking I possibly broke a rib. Would it be a dead give away or no pain at all?

That is true and the same can go for other bones. I once knew this guy that broke his thumb while skateboarding. I think it took him about 6 months later to find out that he had broken it.

Little Nell (The Rocky Horror Picture Show) broke her neck and she still danced in the film. She didn't know that it was broken and didn't go to the doctor until she was urged after feeling neck pain for god knows how long.

That makes your bones really dense and easier to break. Did you suffer any major incidents that caused this to happen? It's best to get it checked out, better safe than sorry.

Not that I can recall. The only thing I could think of would be in football a while ago I was tackled and landed on the ball just below my ribs, around the middle of my stomach area and got winded pretty bad. Yeah I think I should get it checked out. Thanks man

It is normal well not like everybody everyday normal. The ribs do have joints connecting them to your sternum. The cause could be anything from medical (broken or arthritis or some other bone Disease or even just sprains) but the most common "problem") is how you sleep on your back/stomach or if you sit with your head in one hand for a long period of time and its just your ribs popping back. If anything your problem is just that of someone who cracks their fingers getting the "air" out of the joints

NO. There is nothing normal about this unless you have a undiagnosed connectivity disorder. I really think that you should see a doctor.
