Is it normal to be a student and never drink alcohol?

Honestly? Because I'm going to uni later this year and I dread being a loner again because I don't go out getting drunk to 'socialise'. It happened in high school and I don't want to be perceived again as a miserable, boring, anti-social loner. I have my own reasons why I won't drink. It's not a religious thing. I am 18, which is the legal drinking age in my country. By the time I go to uni, I'll be 19. I don't drink because I don't like the idea of losing my self-control and being vulnerable and out of character. I've never tried more than a sip of alcohol and I don't like the idea of starting drinking just to fit in.

Bravo for sticking to your guns...and at such an early age! You will find ur niche in schl n life. Dont sweat it. Alcohol makes you loose inhibitions, but it isnt necessary to have fun. If a person needs alcohol to have a good time, THEY are the problem. I have fun with or without. Just relax n be urself. You dont have to fit any one clique. Make your own.. Sit back, relax and watch everyone else who is plastered make a fool of themselves... Its fun, in and of itself!

Nothing wrong with that at all. I'm in college and have plenty of friends despite not drinking at all. I tried drinking but don't like it because all it does is make my nose annoyingly red.

Trust me - uni has so many different clubs and social groups you will find where you fit in. If you don't want to drink don't...these are your formative years ;). Good luck

Very very normal. I'll be in my senior year of college now and I don't drink or smoke weed either. My best friends do though. You can always go to parties and not drink. Personally, I don't like the hangovers or the way people act stupid. Drinking is a trend and you don't have to be peer pressured into it. If you do decide to drink, do it because you want to and are responsible with it, not because you're pressured into it.

This is completely normal. I am the exact way. I am a freshman in college and have never drank in my life. I just don't like the idea of losing my self control and not remembering anything. I feel like people in college are much more understanding about it. They respect my decision and there are actually a lot of people who don't drink as well.

Your completely normal. In high school I would go to parties and watch my friends get really wasted. To see them act so goofy and out of character made me not want to drink either. You can choose to still drink just don't get completely drunk.
