Is it normal to be a straight guy fascinated by gay culture?

I am a 100% straight bloke, I could never take anything other than a woman to bed. But gay people fascinate me and I'm on a quest to better understand them and their fight for equality. I sign all the gay marriage petitions and have taken proactive steps in getting it legalized here in Australia. I like to listen to gay people and what they have to say. I read alot of gay press publications. I have even hung out at a gay club, but a gay man was making advances at me, not believing me when I told him my sexuality, he ended up assaulting me so I haven't returned to one since. I just want to further understand them, once they start physically coming onto me it makes me very uncomfortable of course! Is it normal for straight guys to be fascinated by non straight guys?

    I think it' kind of neat that you'd want to get to know another lifestyle. I'm bi, and have experienced a lot of discrimination from ignorant people, not because I've come onto them.

    I know a little about gay culture. Just enough not to look like a dumbass. But other than that I'm not interested. Im not against or for it, I just don't care.
    But if you got assulted, you should punch the guy. Self deffense is ok at any time (against anyone). One time in a disco, a gay guy came, grabbed my damn ass and said something (don't remember what he said)I do remember that I pushed him to the side violently and told him to back off.
