Is it normal to be a cutter?

I know many people who cut themselves as a release of pain. They don't do it to kill themselves or to die. They say it helps them. My question is that normal to use cutting as a help? Why is there such a negative sterotype about it, I know handfuls of people that do it and have never even thought of ending their life.

If they thought it was normal they would do it in front of their families and not hide the fact.

If they can't admit to doing something then they shouldn't be doing it!

Do you masturbate in front of your family or broadcast the fact to them?

No I would not masturbate infront of them, but its not like they don't realise I do it.

  • It's not a normal behaviour, self harm never is. Most people may cut because they are trying to regain control of their lives - if they feel depressed and out of control, they control the cutting and when and where.

I used to self harm but I knew it wasn't normal. Now I look back and think, did I really slice up my own arm? Makes me sad to think I was that unhappy.

Four years later, we still got pathetic losers slicing their perfectly good skin and ruining it. It's a shame.

Personally, I think there's nothing wrong with it. Most of the negativity surrounding it has more to do with society looking down on cutting, than cutting actually having harmful consequences. I used to cut but then I stopped, and when I stopped I developed an even worse problem, Binge Eating Disorder. I would do anything to go back to the days when it was all simple, when a few scarlet lines across my thigh was enough to satisfy me. It really helps you cope. If you need to do it, do it.

It is sad that many people turn to that. Cutting releases heroin like endophins into the blood stream which is what causes them to feel better. But doing this can put your life in danger, physically and mentally. Find different ways of releasing pain such as talking to someone like a friend or family member, music, finding a unique creative outlet for yourself, write songs, join kick boxing or mma fighting, or join a group where you can talk about it. Try to use a different method of dealing with your pain that is not related to self harming or drug abuse. (:

I think you may feel that if you can control the pain then thats one thing in your crazy life you do have control over but i dont think cuttting is the best option you should try to seek help for you and the people around you

I thought the scars were pretty and as the blood dripped, i did think of death at some point but i would never take my own life no matter how miserable i felt. Many people do it but i'm not sure its considered normal OP.

  • It's more of a impulsive thing for me, not that I do it anymore.

I've done it. I have no problem to admitting it either. I have never done it to kill myself. It got my mind off of everything else at the time, but I'll never do it again. Last night would have been the time and I didn't have the urge. It's all about self control and what you will do when you finally reach that breaking point.
