Is it normal to be 18 and never been drunk?

I am the only 18 year old I know to have never gotten drunk. My boyfriend, and all of my friends younger and older have at some point, but me... never. I have never been to a party where alcohol was served so I never had the chance. I am not willingly abstaining, I would probably try drinking if I had the chance. But it just feels weird, I mean, I NEVER did it! EVER! And I get weird looks when I tell that to those around me. I looked this up online, somebody was in the same situation as me and they got called a pussy, told they have no friends... so that gave me more of a feeling that it is weird. IIN.

  • Only cool people get drunk! c'mon join em! Why should you care about some random immature idiot calling someone a "pussy" because he/she never got drunk. I think it's nice that you never got drunk. You might do things you might regret while being drunk. Also you're taking a chance at having a hangover the next morning. But alas, it's your life, you do what you want. You're normal to me.

I've never been drunk, but I've been stoned.

You see to be happy and enjoy life without it, so why try to add it?
If you do drink just be responsible and be with people you trust, don't want to do things you regret.

If you can have fun without it, you don't really need it now do you?

I used to love getting drunk around your age and had a lot of fun doing it. All my friends where pretty much drinking buddies and we had good times. It's not all bad, but not all good either.

I don't drink anymore because it became a hassle as I got older. I started blacking out and doing really stupid things. It was good for a few years though.

I never drank at 18, and sometimes the pressure was high. But I learned that those who minded didn't matter, and those that mattered, didn't mind. That gave me self confidence, so it was worth sticking out. As I got older, I learned to nurse a single drink all night, just to make others more comfortable with their choice to drink. Sometimes, life us about navigating other peoples insecurity. I'm 40 now and haven't had my arm twisted to drink in decades. This phase really does pass. Sometimes still comes up in work situations, but mostly no one notices anymore. Last year, on a spur, got drunk with my hubby just to see. Silly when drunk, but it wasn't much more fun. I'm unlikely to do it again, but it was ok once for curiosity. It's all normal, people pressure you because they are insecure, so try not to take it too personally. The gems are the ones, drinkers or not, who are OK with your choices and their own.

I had never been drunk at 18 either - i stood proud by the fact as i really didn't like the idea. However, then i left home and gave in to peer pressure and had the worst time of my life. You don't need to drink to have a good time! People have so much more respect for you if you just calmly say 'no thankyou i don't drink' stick to your guns!

    americans > weed
    europeans > alcohol

basically you cant have anymore fun than when ur with ur friends being drunk, cranking some hard ass party music and laughing it up. rather than sitting and blazing with some friends looking into a stupid tv :). im european and I've noticed how many americans who smoke vs drinking. i wouldn't worry about such a thing its up 2 u. but i would recommend it because its social and fun. you dont have to end up vomiting but a nice party is always a pleasure.

If you want to know what it feels like, just go to a bar or buy some beer from a shop (unless the age limit is 21 where you are). But if you're not really interested, then there's no law that says you have to drink.

Drinkers often feel uncomfortable around people who aren't drinking, though, which is probably where these "pussy" remarks are coming from. It's not a comment on the abstainer but a comment on them that they feel uncomfortable.

Just cuz you've never had a drink doesn't mean you lose any value as a friend lol. I know a couple of people who are 20 and 21 who have never had a drink before. It's totally normal. In fact, you should be proud. It's a good thing alcohol is bad for you. You are healthy.

"somebody was in the same situation as me and they got called a pussy" what is this bullshit? That doesn't make you a pussy.

Never getting drunk isn't weird. You're normal. Regrets and morning sickness isn't fun. The thing about alcoholics, it's a distraction from their lives. Is your life so horrible you feel like you need to get hammered?

    Stay sober
