Is it normal to avoid friends since they are interested in you?

Is it normal to avoid friends or like an example your ex because they still have feelings and it gets awkward? So some people you just cut from your list even if they want to hang out?

It could be a form of a defense mechanism that you have set up. By avoiding them you prevent anything going further or proceeding that way. It could also raise your radar once they show interest because you do not want to deal with it or not sure how to (e.g. your ex). It's normal to protect yourself from getting hurt but it's unkind to those who are trying to get closer to you. It's better to tell them your reasons before completely cutting them off.

    • Yes and getting closer is usually getting back together. Which is aggravating and awkward when going out with an ex/love interest. Not sure how to handle it so I just cut them off.

The question is, do you want to get back together? If not, avoiding him only prolongs the tension. It's normal to be unsure on how to deal with it but telling him your reasons is more reasonable than just blankly leaving them in the dust.
