Is it normal to assume white people are racist

I realize I tend to avoid them because I don't like being around them.I believe they are atleast prejudice against blacks.I think I might strongly dislike them but idk if that's okay since my great great grandma or something was irish..good thing people can't tell just by looking at me.Also isn't it hypocritical since some music I like the artist is white and I'm attracted to white guys...I've had bad experiences with whites and I'll be going to college soon so unfortunately I'll be around people I don't feel confortable with.

You're being a racists by generalizing all white people as being racists. Just make friends with people regardless of their race and you'll make the world a better place :)

You're very ignorant. You're probably the one that wants to keep using the race card to get yourself out of situations maybe that's why you keep your distance away from whites.

  • I'll give you something hilarious to think on. My Nana was Portuguese but her skin was of the darker tone. I however am white as anything, since my mother was white and my father's father was white, so my father missed out on the genes.

So why would I be racist in the slightest? Simply put, there's one race, the human race.

I kinda feel this way about black people. I'm like "what if they wont like me because I'm white?". Its ridiculous!

One day, when you grow up, you will realise skin colour is not important.

People are like socks - all different colours, shapes and sizes :o)

I went to school with so many blacks that played that card. The girls were always the one that had the worst attitudes and whenever i'd get in trouble for fighting they would pull that 'i was threatened because she's white' or something along the lines. keep in mind i was one out of 4 white girls at my small high school. Its not like whites were gaining up on them.

So you don't like white people because you think they're racist...you're a racist loser.

Just because you've had some bad experiences with white people doesn't mean we're all bad. I think most people are willing to make friends with anyone regardless of colour.

It's funny because a lot of black people assume whites are racist. It depends a lot on where you live. I lived in the 'deep south' for a while and I'd get approached by black guys and ALWAYS they'd ask if it was OK to talk to me, they assumed my parents (or myself) were in the Klan. I'm not exaggerating at all, it's completely true. This was in the 90's, so I don't know how true it is still but it was the norm back then.

I don't think it's changed that much. Some people are racist and others aren't. I can understand why some people are racist, though. I'm not saying it's right, just that I think some reasons are better than others.

  • Already stated that you're racist, so there is no point in me saying it...Just me making a paragraph or less explaining that everyone already sees you as racist...

Your own actions peg you as being racist.

YOU are judging people based on skin color. This makes you no better than the people you look down on.

Am I the only one who doesn't pay attention to colour? Jesus. But there are some black people, as there are some white people who are the typical ghetto/loud/annoying/uneducated kind, who I avoid - both colours.

But seriously I pay no attention to colour, why are the lot of you =?

I fully understand where you're coming from. I used to feel the same way about white people, until I had to transfer to a school full of them! I was highly un comfortable and thought they were all judging me and hating me because I'm black. But I realized, when they started coming up to me and trying to hang out with me that I was wrong. Our bad experiences with white people is no different to other peoples bad experiences with men or women or jobs, etc. But we have to give them a chance because that person personally have not done a thing to you. That's what I had to tell myself, that this person didn't do it. Or that person didnt do it. Maybe try to look at them as individuals instead of a whole race and see how that works. We always say how we dont want people to judge us because of the color of our skin, so let's do the same for them and every other race. try it out... get out your comfort zone. It's going to feel real wrong and awkward but after a while you'll get used to it. And maybe you even get a wonderful friend or lover out of it. :) Good Luck!!

  • Everyone is somewhat racist, being white I prefer the company of whites and dating whites, etc...by the basic definition of racism you can say I am racist.

The same would be said for blacks who share the same viewpoints, except in our misguided need to achieve political correctness no matter what black people can NEVER be called racists.

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • well, yeah, that's racist, but everyone's a little racist. It's not a big deal unless you act on your thoughts. I know how it is, though, liking to be with people who look like you and how it's more comfortable, I think that's normal. I also know what it's like to have people afraid of you because of your race, and that just makes me want to scream! I suppose if you've had bad experiences the racism is understandable, but what's better: assuming the worst of everyone or assuming the best?

In my experience(I live in a very mixed neighborhood and have a very mixed family) a lot of blacks behave more racist towards blacks and whites than whites behave towards blacks. Most black ppl I know believe that blacks who don't act like rappers are lame and and treat us differently.

I was implying that belief that someone is racist leads to racism.

If you believe a particular person is racist and you don't like that person because he doesn't like you, that's not racist. If you believe that person is racist because of the color of his skin, you're racist.

Yeah I'm like half asleep and not really thinking anything through here <--- excuse

The only thing I meant to say here was that belief that a certain ethnic group is always inherently racist means that you yourself are possibly racist.

So basically what everyone else said.

I'll tell you a funny story. I was visiting my grandma (hadn't seen her/talked to her in years) when I moved to --- where she lives. We were at the dinner table and she told me she wanted to ask me something.

She told me a story about when her and my aunt (her daughter) went to visit my mom and her family. (My mom's family is Filipino) She told me that they were making fun of her daughter for being white the entire night and they were just treated them like shit. She then asked me if I was racist to whites because I'm half Filipino.

Hypocrite who doesn't know it :( You have racist prejudice towards white people, perhaps college will allow you to mingle with white people who aren't racist so you can overcome this.
