Is it normal to ask someone you just met to be your gf/bf?

If it's not normal, why has it been happening to me these days that I'm chatting online? Not on dating websites, just regular chat rooms. Some are joking, but some aren't. They haven't even seen me, barely talked to me, but want to date me? Is this the dating scene nowadays?

A few years back and on omegle, I once had a guy beg me to be his GF. He asked how old I was, where I was from and my description. From MY description, he said I was so beautiful and that we could be perfect together. I asked where he was from and he said India.

    This was my description:

    Brown hair
    Hazel eyes
    5'4
    Slim build

He wouldn't stop and told me I was his soul mate, that it was destiny, that we were supposed to be together because my name was his favorite name even though he only heard it in his dream. I thought he was trolling so my friend was with me and we gave him a new MSN account name we created. I sat on camera and he was over in India in an internet cafe and was actually 50 years old. I asked him to wave and he did, I asked him to walk away from the camera for a second and he did. It was definitely him, I started laughing, he was happy, he said he saw me in his dreams, he kept it up. My friend was laughing like a hyena beside me and it was the funniest thing ever until I said I had to go, he told me his full name and told me to go find him. Ha, what a life he must lead.

One of the creepy guys I talked with was in Omegle too. What a place! You know when they ask right ahead how you look, if you have a boyfriend, it's best to just say goodbye...

Maybe you have an attractive online personality?

This one time, in real life, I sort of unintentionally asked a girl out the first time I met her. I told her she was very pretty and then I asked her if she had a boyfriend. When she responded no, I then asked if she wanted a boyfriend. She took that as 'do you want me to be your boyfriend,' which is not the way I meant it. I was trying to ask her if she was open to dating, it just came out in a really bad/awkward way. Funny how things happen like that.

The same thing happens to me, except it's not online.
People I don't know have approached me and asked me out at places like WalMart, the mall, the park, and a few other places.

Thank you, but I wouldn't consider myself cute. I'm like 12 pounds overweight and have a a diastema, so I have no idea why I get asked out by strangers. I usually just awkwardly apologize and politely tell them I'm not looking to date anyone at this time.

I think you need better self-esteem! You're probably good looking and don't even know it.

Only after writing it I realized I solely criticized myself! Woww... haha. Thanks for the heads-up.

You must be at least a bit cute. None of those features is necessarily unattractive. I guess then you seem friendly and open to the world. Guys seem to be afraid of asking me out because I'm a bit of a shrew. lol That and I'm just average looking. Not appealing.
