Is it normal to ask for time off in advance?

Can you ask for time off in advance if you are going to start a job during certain days? Like if you have something arranged a month ahead of time or will that make them NOT hire you?

You are saying you haven't even started working there yet, and you to arrange time off?
It might cost you the job. If it was a really family thing that has been arranged for some time you might ask. If it's a concert, sporting event or anything of that nature, I wouldn't hire you, if you even asked.
In reality, get the job and feel things out. Perhaps after you make a few friends, you might be able to get someone to cover for you, or the boss is a lot nicer guy than I am.

NO. It's irresponsible. As Drake says, don't do it.
