Is it normal to ask a guy out to a play?

Hello, I am in college and I am part of a club of which I have a crush on one of the e-board members. I don't even want to say its a crush, there are times I'll catch him looking at me, he smiles at me a lot. At first it was a little awkward because we both kind of knew we had a thing for one another, so we didn't even talk that much lol but now we do, and most of it is related to the club. So I am taking this theater class and there is a play coming up and I want to know if you guys think a first night out together will be cool with a play. However, I have to say he is religious, he's not your usual guy. Also, it is a VERY romantic play, so that's why I am little hesitant. And, I want to eat before/after the play, but he's always so busy that I have a feeling he'll be ready to do one or the other.
Suggestions, advise, would appreciate if everyone is respectful! :) thank you

Hey, it's the 21st century; ask away. He's not the right guy for you, if he can't get behind that.

If by "play" you mean play with his balls, then yes you should.

I remember when someone asked if I wanted to go see the Rocky horror picture show, I went thinking it was a horror stage show, I first realised I was wrong when I was the only person in line not dressed in tights or a wig

    Of course it is.

Just make sure he actually likes going to the theatre first.

As much as it's a nice idea, some people can't stand theatre, and having to sit in silence whilst people do stuff you're not interested in for over an hour won't put you in the best, most romantic mood.

If a guy that I really liked asked me out to say ... a sport event( I HATE sports) I'd go with him because I liked him.

Of course you would - but the ideal situation would be to go on a date that both people can enjoy, rather than a date where one of you is basically gritting teeth and bearing it because they dig you.

Love is in the air. He may want to know which lines touched your heart. You can also act out some of the romance with him after the play.

Sure. That sounds like a cool date. Even if I didn't like a girl, I'd go on that date with her just for fun.
