Is it normal to apply deodorant on...?

I take a shower at least twice a day, and even more during summer, I clean my feet with antibacterial soap couples of times a day.
However, my feet smell really bad after one or two hours of wearing socks and shoes. I've tried everything you can imagine, but nothing worked. So, disappointed, I had this crazy idea of applying deodorant on my feet! I tried it and, to my surprise, it worked!
I know having severely smelly feet despite all what I'm doing to keep them clean is not normal, but my question is:
Is it normal to apply deodorant on my feet to prevent them from smelling like a dead mouse?

  • I started doing this recently and I wish I'd started sooner..could have saved so much money from buying foot spray. So long as you wash your feet everyday, deodorant is fine :)

Have you tried wearing unlined shoes? Shoes that have a lining, even a leather lining, can cause smelly feet.

You're right. I thought there was something wrong with me. I had an appointment with the doctor about something else and I asked him about my sweaty feet and he said that I should wear shoes that didn't have linings. It's hard to find shoes today that aren't lined, but I found some and I haven't had smelly feat since.

Yeah that's normal, I have the same problem because I never wear socks, so my feet get super sweaty. You can actually get foot deodorants specifically for feet, might be worth buying one of those if you have a real problem with foot odor like I do :)

It is fine to use antiperspirant on your feet. But another method is to use neem soap. Theraneem is one brand, but you can find neem soaps at the healthfood store. I bought a round bar, don't know the brand, that had a nice mix of herbs in it, and it smells better than Theraneem. What neem does for you is control bacteria, fungus and viruses that cause odor. Unlike modern antibacterial soaps, it is a healthy way to go and it doesn't stop working. My boyfriend loves this soap. He also says a foot spray I bought him called Earth Therapeutics tea tree oil foot spray fixes that clammy feeling his feet tend to get. It has a minty fresh scent because it's not just straight tea tree oil.

It's very normal to put deoderant on your feet if you're having problems with foot odor. However it's not normal to shower "at least twice a day or more". All those soaps and cleaners mess up your body chemistry, take all the nutritious oils out of your hair and dry up your skin.

There is "too clean" for everything. Douches are actually terrible for a woman's vagina and can lead to infections, overwashing a piercing will make it worse than underwashing it.

I sort of think that there IS such as thing as being too clean. Harsh cleaners and soaps can mess up the chemistry of the surface of your skin.

For example, I know people who shower just about once every day, and they smell RANK. Pure awful.

Then again, I also know a 50yo old-school down-home country man who only bathes once a month with all natural home-made soap. He doesn't stink. NEVER has an odor. EVER. And his hair (long, straight dishwater blonde) looks healthy, too.

But eh, what do I know.... :P

Is it normal? No, that's definitively a no. But if it works, who cares?
