Is it normal to always want to live a simpler life?

Sure, I like to look at new gizmos and products and to hear about new ideas and new technology. But overall, when it comes to living my own life, I'd rather just live simply.

When it comes down to it I would like a partner, just a few close friends, a simple home (a very small house or even something rustic like a log cabin with no electricity or just a little solar power), a no frills car, and less belongings in general.

I don't even really want to make much money except what I need for basic living needs. And even then I'd rather be able to farm much of my own food rather than have to buy the majority of it.

Is it normal to want to give away my "modern" and busy life for simpler ways?

    If you haven't read Walden, you should. I've been dipping into it again recently because I know someone who is reading it.

    Simple living really does sound attractive. Although if everyone lived that way, I think this site wouldn't need to exist.

      Huh. I'm really not fond of Walden anymore. Anyway, why do you think this site wouldn't need to exist? Other than the fact that the internet probably wouldn't exist, I mean. Do you think people would be happier?

    I've often fantasised about what my ancestors would have lived like. Id love to live in the mid 1700's where the Renaissance was in full swing, there were only luxury commodities. Id give up anything to have lived in one of the royal palaces in Renaissance Europe.

    Can I come too? I'm not into technology much, id love a place in the woods, my car is already no frills, I like rustic, I need to get rid of some crap, I'm a useful person to have around, so can I come too?
