Is it normal to always smile?

There is this girl that went to my last high school that never stopped smiling (well she did have a straight face ONCE but it was brief). I mean even if she's lost in thought she's smiling. While she speaks she's smiling. She probably smiles through constipation!

But seriously, is that normal? Do you think she's a really happy person, or maybe if her face is just like that? It's a genuine smile too.

It's normal if she's always high.

Not in my opinion. I hate it when I'm at school and there's some creepy person walking down the hall alone smiling. I only smile if something was funny.

If she has a disability like Angelman's Syndrome or William's Syndrome, she has an excuse; those disorders cause chronic happiness and smiling.

But otherwise, she sounds like a fake person. Probably some straight-A goody-goody who spends every waking moment of her life trying to please someone else. Even stoners don't smile ALL the time.

I often have a fake smile on my face. I am pretty miserable these days and hate life, but I have good reasons - Welfare bums, money, etc. But I often try to smile, even when I'm sad. A lot of people never knew just how sad I was. I've had depression since I was 13. It's often the ones you least suspect who end up killing themselves. Just listen to "Adam's Song" by Blink 182... "I never thought I'd die alone... I laughed the loudest, who'd have known?" Yup, that's me. Well not dead, but so many people think I'm happy when I'm not. Though there have been a couple people lately who have picked up on it, so maybe the smile is starting to wear thin.

I hate to burst your bubble, but if you're wearing a fake smile nonstop, odds are a lot of people know it's fake, and know that you're probably depressed.

I see this post is very old though, so I hope that by now you've gotten help with your depression. I know people who have depression and it's horrible. :(

It's odd because the majority of us aren't happy all the time.

    Is it abnormal? No.

Is it normal? In a way, yes. Uncommon perhaps.

  • I had a teacher like that. She always had a smile on, it was kinda creepy when I'd look up at the board and see her smiling looking at us. I guess it's normal, but I find it weird.
