Is it normal to always miss lines in a movie without closed captions?

I'm 23. I have no hearing problems. English is a native language (I was raised bilingual). I just have trouble making out all the lines of dialogue in a movie without closed captions. I'll feel stupid coming out of a movie and asking questions that if I'm sure I'd understand if I could absorb all the dialogue through subtitles. My brothers and sisters don't have a problem with this, and it's not like I'm not paying attention.

It's completely normal to not be able to make out a few lines in every movie, but it's not normal to miss every line. I always watch dvds with subtitles on for this very reason

Reading a movie is normal so having the subtitles on. Probably why I enjoy foreign movies a lot. You are probably a visual-spatial learner so seeing or visualizing something is probably the easiest way for you to learn.

I don't always make out every line, but that doesn't worry me. Most dialogue isn't all that important. But sometimes it does get in the way of me understanding some part of the film. But I've never tried putting on the subtitles. Maybe I should?

I'm not sure if it's normal or not, but I have a similar problem. Unless the actors can enunciate their lines perfectly, I have to put on the subtitles. I think I may have a hearing problem though, because sometimes I have trouble understanding people in real life and sometimes I'm late for dinner because I don't hear my name being called.

I used to have this problem. I find myself not really noticing foreign or muffled tongues anymore due to watching foreign movies and being so involved with international affairs on the internet. My advice to you is to listen and truly distinguish words of other dialects of English. Listen to the difference between an Aussie and a British accent. Listen to the difference between Korean and Filipino accents. The only way to get better at comprehension is to comprehend.

I agree, the ONLY explaination is that your socially retarted, mentally retarted, or some combination of the two.
