Is it normal to always make words out of other words?

I do this a lot, but mostly in school. is it normal to make words out of the letters in other words. For instance I see the word "winter". In my head I will think "win, wine, wire, write, went, ire, tine....". It gets really annoying sometimes. Sometimes I enjoy it, but most times it's just a distraction.

    With so many similar spellings of words and so many words that have the exact same spelling with different meanings, how could you not think of other similar words. I think it is normal.
