I'm learning to play guitar and had a teacher say that most players down pick everything.

    Double picking is the way to go if you want to play with speed. Depending on your style simple down picking can be fine though. It's a good way for a beginner.

      Agreed - down picking is how most people learn and it's a surefire sign that you haven't been playing long. Alternate picking is a must!

    I have trouble believing they down pick everything. Other than that, I think there are some things that different guitar players do differently.
