Is it normal to always be ready to fight?

Everywhere that I go even if its a simple walk down the block or going to the grocery store or taking out the trash etc I always have the mentality of fighting ready to go and always alert. I think it could be because as a kid I grew up in the ghetto and on top of that I didn't go to a normal highschool I went to a school for I guess you could say criminals and I was in juvenil hall a few times and it was just fight after fight everywhere for the simplest things and I just got use to it everywhere I went. But enyways is this normal or am I weird does anyone else think like this?

Its good to be prepared, understand were the exits are or the next step of shots are fired. Why fight a natural reaction, being prepared is not a fault unless it takes up all your thought and understanding.

Go with it, learn to use your abilities.

My uncle is like this but it gets him in trouble so I say do what I do. I can understand that rush so I decide to use fighting in a more productive way. Praticing different martial arts and learning discipline from it will help. I love sparring and even practice Tai Chi because I'm bipolar and my anger has gotten me in alot of trouble. It's like a therapy. I think you will enjoy martial arts and it will probably teach you discipline to not to always have that urge to fight someone.

i think it's _USUALLY_ not normal.

but with your history, i'd classify your mentality as pretty much what i'd expect, that is, normal.

you always HAD to watch out and be ready to fight, now you ARE always watching out and ready to fight. you're conditioned to be like that, much like a good policemen or soldier would be.

You can "untrain" that as well though if it bothers you.

Depending on what you saw in the ghetto or juvie, like if anything incredibly sketchy went down, you might have an anxiety issue or PTSD. Id reccommend looking into the possibilities, because both can get much worse than just your current paranoia. The symptom you have is called hyper-vigilance.
