Is it normal to allow murderers to commit suicide?

It costs a lot of time and money to keep convicted murderers who have commited heinous crimes locked up. We need to provide them with shelter, food, energy, clothing, medical and legal assistance among other things.
Is it normal to feel that we should allow these prisoners to commit suicide and to assist them in every way possible?

  • It depends. The worst murders wouldnt be remorseful and would most likely rather live. Personally I dont think murder is always wrong. Some people are in prison for rightfully killing, such as killing in self defence or killing someone who deserved to die. These people however shouldnt even be in jail.

Take the case of T.J. Lane, who recently killed 3 High School students in Ohio. He has already confessed for these crimes. He will probably be tried in adult court (and I think he should be). How much money will it cost us all to keep him incarcerated for perhaps 60 years? Should this money, energy and resources go towards someone more deserving? It is Unethical to subject him to Capital Punishment, but if we allow him to raise his Ethical Standing and provide assistance in his own suicide, is this not the better course?

...I don't really see how it's "unethical" to give him capital punishment", but "ethical" to assist him to commit suicide.

Capital punishment is unethical, because it is imposed.
Suicide is ethical, because it is a personal decision.
To assist in suicide is helping another person in making and carrying out the proper ethical decision.

I'm not fan of the death penalty, but that's because the person may have been wrongly convicted.

But I have no objections to the life-in-prison inmates executing themselves and saving tax payers money if they are so inclined.

Yup, I think anyone should be allowed the honor of taking your own life, reagardless of the situation. Something I really admire about the seppuku ritual in Japanese samurai culture.

Unfortunately in our, western view there are certain conceptions about suicides that were molded by the religion and they are very wrong. I was raised a Christian and still am, but this is one of the subjects I really can't agree with the Dogma about.

Convicts need help to fix their minds and lives, not help to end them.
