Is it normal to agree with the mayor?

The mayor will pass a law in the summer, were people are not allowed to smoke in public. I agree 100% because I lot people are suffering because of second-hand smoke.Even though a lot of people who smoke will disagree.Comments

I love that smoking was banned in bars, and you can't smoke in most parks or public gathering spots where I live. But 100% public is extreme. And sitting behind an idling car isn't a breath of fresh air. And just last week I had to leave work early because of some nasty perfume some woman used and got all over the doorknobs. But I'm not going to make a law that says she can't use it in public. I do believe there are more important things that my tax dollars can provide. Enforcing this will distract police from more important things. But your mayor is probably just trying to make a name for himself and using it purely for political gain.

I don't think smokers are idiots. Everyone makes their own choices and unfortunately, the choice to smoke can harm other people nearby through inhalation. There should still be designated smoking areas because nicotine is addictive and smokers can go through withdrawal of they don't have a place close enough to work to smoke. (just as an example).

  • It is common sense. Smoking can harm people who are in close proximity to you, therefore it should not be done in public. As a matter of fact, smoking should be outlawed altogether because it is bad for you. Now, I know some of you will say "It is a person's right to choose to smoke!" but the opinion of a smoker is meaningless because they are addicted to nicotine and their judgment is thus compromised.

What about cracking down on drinking and driving. In ny it has become the norm for 1-2 people to die a day from that. God forbid the smell of a cig offends the mayor . Also he should shut down cigar bars, hypocrit is what he is god forbid the filthy rich complain. Bloomberg = worst mayor in ny history!

The smoking ban in bars was fantastic for smokers. We all used to huddle outside on the naughty step and immediately had a common sense of purpose and shame. I've spoken to more random strangers smoking outside pubs than I ever have inside them.

Added to that, we all drank less and smoked less because of the inconvenience. Without the smoking ban, I think I'd still be a smoker now.

Finally, given that my Godmother, a wonderful woman in every respect, died at the age of 37 from secondary smoke inhalation, I support a smoking ban as a non-smoker just as I supported it when I was a smoker.
