Is it normal to act like a lift snob?

Is it normal to acknowledge people in the lift that I see often with a hi or just a smile I don't know why some people just pretend there is nobody around them and act surprised when you give them a
"hi" - some people are hard up to make eye contact - it's not like anyone is asking them to donate a Kidney.

I think you should always acknowledge others existence, and definitely those you know that you know damn well who they are.

I mean, I hate those people who know you and you know you know them, say from work or school or something, and they see you in public and try to pretend like they don't know who you are, or they hide to get away from having to say hi. Its so pathetic. Give me a break. What are they embarrassed? What? Were we like together or something and had a bad falling out? I mean, thats how they act. They act like teenage ex's act when they bump into each other at the mall.

Its so stupid. I totally get where you're coming from.

social convention says (at least in britain) if you are going to be with someone for any length of time you should acknowledge their existence.
