Is it normal to act different around different people?

I don't act like a totally different person but around some people I can be really goofy and crazy, and then around other people I can be more sarcastic and serious. I don't think it has to do with how close I am to the person because I can be equally close to two people and act different around them. Also some people that I just meet I can be like really talkative and outgoing, then some people that I just meet I act really shy and reserved.
Also around certain friends I act different ways around them at different times or on different days. some have pointed this out.
I don't know is this normal? If not then what the hell is wrong?... and no I do not have a split personality lol.

Not necessarily mr tomcat. I've gotten that myself all my life . It's a comfort thing with me. I just don't feel comfortable or maybe confident around different people ,it just brings out funny shit somehow. Been trying to fix it dunno how to though.

It's normal. I do the same thing. You can feel the type of energy people give off.

It's extremely normal. It's a type of conformity.

It's like we're all stuck in a loop of the same ten questions.

Yes. For every situation, many of us are given a different role or part (whether explicit like working as a cashier at a grocery store and having to behave in a certain way around customers or implicit like meeting your boyfriend's parents and having to act in a polite manner, or acting polite around people that you have just met). It's normal.

It's just that. Not all people get along, it would be totally out of place if you told a joke to a guy you just met without talking to him abit, especially if he's a serious type, if he gets it all ice breaks, if not you just earned some disrespect. Not everyones is a jackass talking trash or something to anyone, except those wackos, but most of them are locked up or 10feet underground. Otherwise I think that it's your own thoughts saying a different opinion about a person, therefore offering a better approach to him.

I do that too. Different people evoke a different you. You can't always be the same even if you try. You have different connections and bonds with different people. Its normal.

I behave this way. I think most (although not all) people do, whether they're aware of it or not. I'm very conscious of mirroring the way people around me speak and the thinks they say. Little turns of phrase new friends use tend to creep into my speech after I've got to know them well. When I try to explain this to other people they tend to think of me as a copycat as opposed to an interesting psychological observation, despite the fact that I can see them doing the same thing. Being so conscious of it is one of the burdens of being interested in psychology :P

  • It's because you're fake and care too much about your rep. You're just another fuckhead who has to change depending on who's around so you'll look cool.
