Is it normal to absolutely hate getting compliments from my parents? Everytime they do compliment me i just feel like screaming or yelling at them cause I hate it so much. (Don't worry I only FEEL like doing it). I have no idea why I hate it, but it makes me really angry and I feel weird.
I don't like getting compliments from my parents because it just sounds like they're suppose to say that. I get where you're coming from.
i know this post is very old but i'm so glad i found this. ive always found myself getting abnormally angry when my parents compliment me and i like knowing i'm not alone. in my case i really love to play music but have stopped unless i'm alone because i hate my parents coming over to me and complimenting me, i want to throw up thinking about it and i don't know why
hey this reply is overdue but I'm in the exact same boat, I play music too (and I lived with my parents at the time I made the original post) and I would practice in secret. I was (and still am) embarrassed to be complimented by my parents and I don't know why.
I agree with the top comment, most value compliments more from those who give them out rarely. It feels more hard earnt in a way
