fear is a defense mechanism to keep us away from sumthing dangerous.spiders, snakes, etc can be poisionus and very dangerous,i think its instinctual to fear them, but u should handle a non-venomus pet snake, just to reassure you that its NOT dangerous.sure it could bite you,but how bad is that really?
yeah I'd say phobia. not run of the mill irrational fear though.
your reaction is a little strong to be considered normal. difference?
snake phobia - you can't even touch a picture of them.
"normal" irrational fear - you can't stand to actually touch them (we are talking a non-poisonous pet variety)
if you want to work on getting over it talk with a therapist (better if they specialize or have experience working with phobias)
Snakes are cool. just realize that a snake isn't gonna bite you for any old reason, he's gotta be pissed. Try hold like a ring snake first and move your way up to bigger ones. That will get rid of your phobia.
(btw snakes arent slimy in case your wondering)
Ha! I'm the same way and I'm 26. It's just a phobia I would think. I love watching nature shows about them, but I won't even go hiking outside without watching my step. I found your post interesting since I too would not touch a picture of a snake when I was young.
I'm the same way with worms. I can't explain why either. I think everyone is like that with something. Seems normal to me
