Is it normal to... squeal and leg it down the stairs when it's dark?

You know when you're alone, or the only one in a part of the house or something. Sometimes I get jumpy and leg it back into a room with someone else in it, because I get scared something is gonna jump out of the dark and eat me all up. Seriously, I don't just walk fast.... I run like my life is about to end. Adrenaline goes and everything. PHEW, get this often?

I have that fear too sometimes. Adrenaline pumps and my throat swells for a second and I run o a lighted or populated area. I hate it.

This happens to me, too. Don't worry - just a remnant of childhood fears.

Well, I got over my paranoia and fear of the dark in the house a while ago. Nowadays, I don't even bother switching on the light sometimes. However, I still do get sudden attacks of paranoia from time to time, although these are generally rare. I might be go upstairs where it's dark to get something and then seemingly out of nowhere, the hairs all over my body will stand on end and the adrenaline floods my system and...you know the rest.

I don't just think that something will "jump out at me and eat me" - I simply feel like something is watching and waiting.

When I was a kid and really scared of the dark/being alone, my paranoia was way worse. My overactive imagination created this whole plot against me. There were two monsters, one male and one female and they kept wanting to poison my food and stuff like that. If I was alone upstairs, then it would be very hard for me to escape to the safety of downstairs because with every step I took, they would take another step up the wall outside of my window (they were crawling up, and for some reason, they could only take on step with every one of mine.) I would usually run downstiars terrified.

Surely you can't be as 'noid as that, eh? ;)
Yeah, you're normal. There are several other stories on this subject on here too.

Its called a fear of darkness, and yes it is a normal fear many people have. Poisonflowers is right. Just try getting some help if its driving you completely crazy and get some nightlights if you want. And no, there is not age limit for nightlights, adults have them too!
