well im 18 and my family treats me like i should be a little child and i hate that, while my brother is like an angel to my mother. ever since i was little my dad left me when i was 3 so my life has be screwed up so i just dont want to be with them anymore.
My parents still treat me like a teen and I'm 23. In fact, I've lived by myself for four years, paid my way through college, and bought my own car with almost no parent contributions, but they still tell me to shush when my sis starts an argument. I think they just know that my sis is a bitch to deal with, so they just tell me to be quiet. LOL.
Are you the oldest sibling? Remember that you're the guinea pig, so you're going to have to be firm when you try to cut the cord. That's not telling you to scream "Im an adult!" when they corner you for coming home drunk at 3 am. That's saying "no thank you I can do it" and taking responsibility for your own finances. It's washing your own laundry, getting a job, going to the store for them.
But yes, you're at that age where you can think for yourself and start to rebel against your parents. You're also disillusioned that they DON'T have all the answers, aren't perfect, and it makes it more difficult. Just focus on a positive mentality, its hard to develop but makes life so much better.
You're 18. You're in control of your life. Do something about it and make a change if you're not happy with it. I moved out when I was 18. My mother and I didn't get along, and I was convinced I hated her. My father died when I was 16 and, believe me, she wasn't in any condition (mentally) to parent.
Just do yourself a favor, and don't sit there and complain about it like everyone else. Not many people, IF any, have anything remotely close to a perfect family life. So, move on, and make your life what you want it to be.
