Is it normal they want to base things off your parents income?

I really do not think parents should be the deciding factor. If a person go to collage even as an adult they must put in your parents income. Parents can keep you on medical bill till 25. Why should they have to? Why do the laws force us to stay under them past adulthood. Your parents could kick you out when you are legal but they are the ones who are suppose to pay your schooling. If they can kick you out why can you not use your own income? Not as though you make as much as your parents. They act like that is your money. It isnt your money!

It pisses me off as well. Government seems to assume that your parents will help you. It's not simply an option to them.

    • This is why we have laws and contracts. They can not just assume this kind of stuff will fix itself.

    • If it is a requirement it should not be OPTIONAL. They do this in school. It is optional to take certien courses as an elective. Though you need to take certien electives to graduate. It should not be OPTIONAL. It should be built into the curriculum. Yet some how this seems to be impossible? Is it really that hard? Where is the logic in this?

    • That is what I mean. Why should they say "You don't get money since your parents are too high and income". Not like anything SAYS they have to pay for us. Nothing SAYS they have to take care of us. Nothing SAYS they are not going to kick us out after high school. Nothing SAYS even with that income they can afford to keep a home and pay for our schooling. Nothing even SAYS we have to go to a university. It is optional yet now with the economy is required for even minimum wage work. They assume we are going to have all this money. We do not have shit!

I was not aware of this... This could be something that varies from one country to the next. Did it ever occur to you that these "rules/laws" could be there to benefit the offspring? It would depend on many different factors. Not all people who are of college age have good finances. In some countries college is NOT free and neither is healthcare. Both of these plus other things can be extremely expensive for a struggling college kid or even a college graduate.

    • Nothing you said makes any sense at all. How is not giving someone money helping them through college? What you say is completely backwards.

Sorry about that, My logic has been a bit jumbled lately.

    • They do not benefit the offspring at all. I do not see how you think this is beneficial. It determines if you are eligible for scholarships and loans. What you are saying would be helped if they went off your income NOT your families income.
