Is it normal they never thought he had a bomb?

They said they thought he had a bomb, but they were lying.
I said: it's sad they thought that kid had a bomb.
She said: they didn't think he had a bomb.
I said: yes, they thought he made a bomb and even called the police.
She said: They just wanted to humiliate a little Muslim boy. They didn't think he had a bomb.
I said: Don't be a conspiracy theorist. They might be a little prejudiced, but I'm sure they thought he had a bomb.
She said: OK.
But they didn't evacuate the school, like you do when there's a bomb.
They didn't call a bomb squad - like you do when there's a bomb.
They didn't get as far away from him as possible, like you do when there's a bomb.
Then they put him and the clock in an office: not like you do when there's a bomb
Then they waited with him for the police to arrive, and then they put the clock in the same car as the police.
Then they took pictures of it.

I said: Damn.....They never thought he had a bomb.

America is such a wonderful country, isn't it?
is it normal they NEVER thought he had a BOMB?

You wouldn't have needed so much convincing if you were at all fimilar with the case because noone ever claimed to believe it was a bomb. The police reported the incident as a "hoax bomb" and when questioning him called it a "movie bomb", as in fake. When his English teacher confiscated it, it was because the teacher told him it "looked like a bomb" not that the teacher thought it was one.

He was never accused of bringing an actual bomb to school. This would be a lot like if you brought a realistic looking toy gun to school. Even if the staff knows its fake, you still can't bring it because a panic could result from it being mistaken for real. In some places there are laws where that is illegal and you could be arrested for it.

I also don't understand why he brought it to school in the first place. He said he wanted to show his teacher his "invention". But he didn't invent anything, all he did was break the plastic outer housing off of a digital wall clock. Why would any teacher be impressed by a broken clock?

All that being said, I agree that it was taken to a level well above what was needed, and that his religion likely played a roll in that. But that doesn't change the fact that your understanding of the situation is wrong.
