Is it normal the south will rise again!!

I'm from upstate ny and we never think about the civil war, and how we won that... But now I moved to va and everyone calls me a damn Yankee and they talk about the civil war like it happened last week! They say stuff like the south will rise again! Anyone find that a bit odd??

I hate the southern states that still think they're rebels or some sh*t. That's why I live in good ol redneck-filled Ohio:) But at least people don't go around wearing rebel flags and stuff. I'd rather move to Italy:P

  • People down there call the civil war the war of union oppresstion. I think to myself how is this possible when they opened fire first.

  • Yeah, I'm a "Yankee" living in Tennessee and everyone thinks the south will rise again! It's pretty annoying, not going to lie.

The south will rise again? For what, and why? I'm from GA and I have never heard that.

I live in the center of georgia, cocky, redneck guys are all over the place. They always chant this shit and flaunt their confederate flags demising all others...

I was raised on that kind of thinking. If the South had won, most of us would have a stick trying to scratch out a living. The South will not rise again .

not so many years ago, i visited a relative in georgia. we went over to stone mountain, and there was a show in the evening. they were all singing dixie and were acting so crazy waving their confederate flags. being from the north, i didn't speak a word, fearing my accent could set them off. i don't think they realize that the south lost the war.

southeners aren't kinder or more polite than northeners. they just sort of fake it rather than be honest. once, on a airport transfer in nevada, i chatted with a southern lady who invited me to her home! she said "if you are ever in ......." then there was the one i met in nova scotia, again, invited me to her home. as if? wouldn't either of them just shit grits if i ever rang their doorbell!

@mtnw-The people you meet in cities that are 40 or less will not be as poliet. If you go to a farm or a small town (baldknob AR is a good example) people will be kinder. Because they know everbody in the town, they love to invite random people in just to talk. My Nana had a habit of this and every time she would make a big supper. Thinking back on it, it was kinda weird but when we were kids all were cared about was if Nana was going to make her fruit salad. Anyway, most people -40 wouln't be a nice because we actually know the danger of letting a stranger in.

  • Hah. It's the south. They'll probably keep that up until the end of time.

  • If the the south riases another time we'll slaughter them the way we did in the civil way... There're basterds for thinking they have a chance to win this time. Assholes

I hope the south "rises" so it can get its ass kicked silly for the second time and they can finally shut the fuck up.

I live in Louisiana and have my entire life. I rarely even hear anyone mention the civil war and I almost never think about it. I'm sure there's some parts where people think about it more but where I live we really don't talk about it outside of a history class.

Yeah i live in Richmond Va, capitol of the confederacy and i have lived in the plains of Arkansas and in Western Ky and I can honestly tell you that anybody that says "yankee" is a dork. Also, we don't hate the North or anything, we just don't like the Idea that most people think were dumb. Remember in school that the bully was always the dumb one because he felt intimadated. The same thing applies here. The second part of that is nobody researches the war and the facts are messed up. The south didn't break because of slavery, we just wanted states rights. States are allowed to break from America if they want to but Linclon knew seperated Usa will fall so he went to war with us. Our Great Great grandparents were just pissed at yall and taught their kids to be pissed too. The reality of the fact is if the war never happened, we would probably be under the rule of Nazi's by now.

f you are around people who use the n-word as much as a pronoun or for shock value they are full of it and have something to prove.

i think this is more about the people that you around. people were like this around me in louisiana but not texas. i am surprised you are dealing with this in virginia because when i lived there it was close to DC and people were educated and classy, almost elitist.

i think they say that stuff to scare people. and as if to show that they are tough because they can say nigger. they're pathetic.

if it gets weirder you might be experiencing discrimination. they'll do anything in order to get you to leave or so they can rip you off.

    basically its not normal.

In this day and age, we need to focus on the fact that we are all on the SAME side. We need to come together as a stronger nation and put that old stuff to rest. Why? So we will be stronger towards the rest of the world. The more we fight each other the weaker we look, but we are supposed to be the 'leaders' (god forbid just coexisting). It would be amusing to hear from the south which one they hate more. Other races than their own or foreigners. (pardon my spelling)

I don't think they mean litterally. I think it is just a way to be proud somehow. Either way the south Is like its own country as it is soo different from the north. By the way we didn't lose the war and you didn't win it, people who lived 150 years ago did. I hate when people say things like that, like when black people say they were slaves. No, your ancesters were slaves, not you. I love living in the south though, people are much kinder and polite then up north.

the south is not that different and nothing like its own country. they have all of the federal guidelines and benefits that all the other states do. they have the same freedoms.

It's not the "civil war," but the war of "northern aggression!"
