Is it normal the sound of people chewing/eating makes me feel sick?

I never noticed this until recently but if I'm eating somewhere and there is no background noise.. The sound of people swallowing, chewing, biting- really bothers me. It makes me feel nauseas and like I have to walk away.

What really drives me crazy is when people eat on the phone or the sound of someone eating on TV like the KitKat ad when everyone takes a crunchy bite and makes mmmm sounds.

I feel this way a lot of the time. The sound of mastication makes me angry and nauseous in equal parts. The sound of a spoon or fork scraping across a plate also makes my head pound, and gorge rise. Cereal is the worst.. the combination of crunching and chewing, slurping milk and scraping spoon on bowl... Blech! I listen to music (pretty loud music) or a movie or something when eating or around someone else eating and that helps me cope. Distance also helps, so I'll come up with reasons to stay away from eaters.. like I'll start on the dishes while the family eats. The sound of running water seems to calm me down.

Man I hate when people chew with their mouth open. That shit I'd annoying. Thank god for earphones. And when I don't have them I rest my head on my hand covering my ear. It muffles the noise somewhat. Its really bad when you hear your roommates doing it across closed off rooms.

Crunching and open-mouthed chewing/smacking/slurping annoy me to no end. I usually end up putting in earphones or just leaving to eat somewhere else. It would be nice of people to take small bites and chew with their mouth closed, or perhaps not purposely smack and slurp. Unfortunately, that is what we Americans are known for, and people generally don't have any concept of the fact that they're wolfing down their food like starving hyenas.

I can't STAND what my friends and I now refer to as "mouth noises" - anyone chewing with their mouth open etc. Unfortunately, my journey to work takes an hour and is full of people with no manners, it gets me really angry! I have to make sure I have a book and MP3 player at all times or I end up wanting to punch someone. My boyfriend does it in his sleep as well, he's not eating but is smacking his lips/chewing his tongue all the time, I've had to sleep in the spare room before. I don't mind people eating normally (except for crisps, which for some reason really p*sses me off!)

Yes most people have never heard of misophonia. A real disorder than isn't just annoying to hear smacking sounds. It causes severe anger. I saw a report on Kelly Ripa who does this morning show. She can't do many cooking segments due to the intense anger it causes when people eat like pigs.

I have the same problem. I usually don't mind crunchy food (e.g. chips or carrots), but I can't stand the noise it makes when people are chewing squishy food (e.g. macaroni and cheese).
