Is it normal that wine drinkers try and guess the wine?

Where they do a blind tasting or such and then try to guess what type of wine it is and what year? What's the point? At what juncture in your life is it useful to be able to identify a random wine? Just read the label.

    actually its is normal, if you try to learn everything there is to wine you'd understand. My bf is becoming a vintner and it's really hard stuff. I have learned the different tastes but i think that's as far as I can go. When people try to guess the year, that only means it's a VERY old wine, because those have VERY specific tastes :)....try tasting different wines, it's fun to later on guess the grapes. :D
