Is it normal that we put clothes on the couch?

After a load of clothes are cleaned, we put it on the couch. After a while after it accumulates we then fold the clothes to put in our dressers. It is very embarrassing at times when company comes over, at that moment we often move it to our parent's bed.
We have a ridiculous amount of clothing, so we cannot manage it in small pieces. Who else does this?
