Is it normal that this really annoys me?

Let me start off by saying that I'm an American rock fanatic from the beautiful city of Akron, OH. I can't get enough of rock music, I could listen to it from the crack o' dawn right up until sunset. Rock music is totally awesome.

Now you would think that as America is the best country in the world by far and it is fricking huge you would expect our music to be the best in the world, but no, sadly not.

That's right, they're all from BRITAIN, that tiny little island full of historical stuff and empty fields. It's so fricking annoying when I get into a new rock/metal band and find out they're British.

For example the newest addition to my rock band taste is a prog metal band called DragonForce (they're a little too heavy but good nonetheless), and I literally crossed my fingers when I looked them up, hoping they would be American. BUT NO! >:(

The only four American rock bands I really love are the Doors, Bread, Dream Theater and Aerosmith. The Beach Boys and Elvis aren't too bad though they're not diverse enough. Not really into Metallica either, although the Metallica self-titled album is good.

I'm just sick of having to put up with knwoing that those British snobs are forever the best at music. They never fail. They get all the glory, always. It should be us, America, we invented rock in the first place, and we are the best...

Is it normal to feel this way? I don't hate British rock music, of course not, I love it to bits, I just hate the fact that all the best music is from Britain and not America. America is so much better than Britain, and it's much bigger with many more big cities, but there's less good rock bands?!

The next time I find out a new rock or metal band I like is British I think I'm gonna tear out my hair.

OK, this offended me... I mean, I'm super glad that my country is rich in rock and metal bands, and for an American to be jealous over it... sheesh-a-rooni, it isn't like everything comes from us.

We're not as dull as you think we are, and we outright deserve to lead the world in this kind of music, generally because we are just damn good at it.

Never heard of DragonForce, I'll give em a listen.

Wishing the US to be attacked by terrorists because of one silly anonymous American's ridiculous music rant is extreme.

I honestly don't see the problem. If you love rock music, why care where they're from?

I was listening to Mr. Big, an American band that is very popular in Japan, and I thought to myself, "imagine if Japanese people hated Mr. Big because they were from America, and they wanted their popular bands to only be Japanese."

I would feel insulted as an American, like... hm that seems a bit racist.

I think it's AWESOME that people all around the world share music and entertainment with each other! I mean hot damn, a lot of the music and movies I like come from places other than the U.S. I dig on some British metal.

Oh and those Germans have some great music too. ;-)

I'm not just saying that because I'm German. Seriously.

Hahaha america is the best country in the world.... You americans are so full of shit! First of all america is a continent, not your deep fry loving fatass country. I hate so much arrogant people and you just contribute to that stereotype that americans are all arrogant pricks. Only because you have a big army and throw it around the world doesnt make all americans superior to other ppl. I wish terrorists will aim at you next time

Well newsflash, no one is really a 100% american and there's a chance that you have British relatives that decided to immigrant to america so many years ago. Do I think america is the best Fucking country in the whole entire world? NO, I don't. Do I think america has the best fucking music in the world? Hell, no!
Britain is a fabulous country with fabulous music! This is coming from a "american" by the way! Get over yourself and get a life! Cheers!

I'm British. We don't see other countries as superior or inferior they're just different. We might prefer living in our own country because we're used to it and its relatively wealthy but I really don't get American patriotism.

True it is the most powerful country and has a good economy but it has disadvantages such as ignorance, high gun crime and a high level of discrimination. I wouldn't say that it's better or worse than the UK or any part of Western Europe.

I am American and I am offended that you stereotype all Brits as snobs.

In my experience (and I have lived in England), we Americans are even snobbier because we think we're better and deserve to be better than everyone else. We're nothing but obnoxiously arrogant arseholes that treat the world as our own.

Obviously, if all the groups you like are British there must be something that the people of England, Scotland, and Wales got that we don't. Accept it.

I'm sorry but I have to add more. I didn't bother reading the end of your blog but now I see that you even went as far as to say America is BETTER than Britain? they do not have only "fields and castles." And what's with the lack of big cities...um heard of LONDON? stirling, cardiff, bristol, bath, salisbury, and even belfast is in the united kingdom. i think you're a naive American and you are exactly the type of person that gives our country its stereotype. and honey, i hail from a small town in western PA and am therefore not far from ohio. guarantee you it's not that great.

sorry to get so defensive but i really hate the way our country is portrayed but can't deny that most of the stereotypes are too true.

The British are better at sci-fi too. Doctor Who is so much better than Star Trek. But unlike you, I actually respect and cherish the fact that something I love comes from another culture.

    • Well I f**ing hate thrash and death metal. It's too repetitive, I am strictly a fan of classic/hard rock and classic metal.

      • Too repetitive? Ever hear of 90% of the bands in both of these genres? haha, well its you're opinion. But trust me,thrash, you have to love atleast ONE thrash band no? Metallica,Lazarus A.D,slayer,megadeth,testament.

I know how you feel. Britain is the home of football but the South Americans play it so much better than we ever could. Much jealousy. But at least we've got the Americans to laugh at, because they didn't really understand the rules when we showed them, and played it with their hands instead. Haha, those retards! We should stop being so generous about giving them our music to listen to.

P.S. Ignorance inserted for comic effect only. In my case, at least.

  • Okay, a few things...

    1. How does Akron look beautiful? It looks like every other US city.
    2. Why do some Americans still think we're snobs? WE ARE NOT, GTE IN YOUR HEAD, AMERICA!
    3. "castles and empty fields" Jesus Christ, we're not that boring, we do have techology and a several good-looking cities.
    4. British rock music is forever legendary. Live with it.
    5. And don't be so patriotic, it makes you sound arrogant. The US has never been perfect.
