Is it normal that this makes me mad?

A teen that gets pregnant is "Congratulated" and told she's doing the right thing but when a 25-yr-old woman wants to get sterilized, she's waved off as "too young to know her own mind". It seriously angers me. What? A teen that's not even grown knows more than a adult? That's preposterous. Since when did young people WITH kids (or want them) have more merit than those without?

I brought this up because I want to get sterilized myself but I'm no doubt going to have issues doing it because of our stupid, sexist society. Right. Like all women= Mothers. Bullshit.

I have never seen a teen be congratulated on her pregnancy, except, peehaps, by her peers. I think you're over exaggerating, and if you're who I think you are, you have claimed to be a lesbian and asexual at various times, so you should be fine anyway. Even if you decided you were straight and didn't want to get pregnant, there are plenty of avenues. Sterilisation is a major and, I would assume, costly procedure. That is why it is norlt so readily available when there are plenty of other options that would work.

The OP isn't who you think she is.

I don't think it's you. It's not always about you.

I don't think that it is always about me. When you brought up sexuality and overreacting, it seemed like you were talking about me. I didn't want you to assume incorrectly.

I don't make "assumptions" without a great amount of consideration.

Who in their right mind congratulates a teen on her pregnancy? That is insanity. Teens are still children, most completely unable to see the results of their actions clearly, especially when the consequences are drastic, like pregnancy or drunk driving.
As for getting sterilized; congratulations on a great decision. There are way enough unwanted children on this planet already. Have anyone who tries to stop you call me, and I will explain the consequences of their small minded interference to them.

You're 25, so you should be able to get sterilized without telling anyone and the medical workers have to keep your business private. Problem solved.

Where do you live? Where I live teens aren't congratulated for pregnancy, at least not by their families. There have been cases of teen pregnancy packs, and in cases like that, I'm sure their fellows would congratulate them.

Females, are expected to have get married and have children once they reach adulthood. It is a standard that has been set both by society and by culture. When a woman goes against the grain, she will be criticized and shamed. I've been critiqued and shamed when stating that I have no desire to have children (etc.) yet, at the same time, I am told that I will change my mind and I have been dictated on what I will do. It's strange, but judging from the demands I have been given, it's like I'm not expected to go to college or have a career. It's like I am expected to meet someone, get married, and have children right now!

It's ridiculous. Of all the things that people protest, why aren't people getting together and protesting about this! Society's attitude about this won't change unless people get together and make them see that it isn't okay.

I'm sure that happens and I agree that it's simply preposterous, but I simply take into account those who are congratulating the teen. Some of those people are completely nonsensical.

But it's not abnormal. People are annoyed by different things.
