Is it normal that this is a turnoff?

I can meet a girl and think she is cool, but if she admits to, for example, really being into only the type of pop you hear on the radio, or really liking shallow T.V. shows such as Jersey Shore, it turns me away from them.

I kind of get the impression they're slightly a bit too shallow or "simple" if this is honestly the best stuff they can take interest in and I feel like they're missing the real "beauty" that things like music can offer because they settle with the radio and such...

Their interests and hobbies are definitely fair indicators of a good match. Just don't be too quick to dismiss someone. Just because her guilty pleasure might be Jersey Shore, for instance, doesn't mean that there is not more to her.

I think it is normal to have these thoughts. But, it is good to give people a chance to suprise you.

If she has a decent pair of tits, a nice ass and a cute face she's good enough for me.

Psh, you sound like a snob. Just because she's in the habit of listening to this or that, doesn't mean she couldn't appreciate something else. Also, perhaps there is something she sees in it that you don't. Don't go around thinking you are superior.. just enjoy what you like and share it with others if you think they will appreciate it.

Also..this kind of thinking makes it obvious that you don't really dig a girl period, regardless of her musical taste. You find her uninspiring, and you are using the example of her musical/tv tastes to illustrate it.

Look a little deeper. You may think that your tastes are real unique...but if you feel superior because of them, there's no beauty to it, at all. Lighten up.

Honestly, I don't think it matters. People like what they like, and it doesn't mean they are shallow.

I feel this way, too. I judge people if they seem like sheep. I want to be around people who watch the news, not jersey shore. People can name every cast member on that show but don't know any supreme court justices or who the secretary of state is. Or why their gas prices are skyrocketing right now. It's pathetic.

ajawson and RCSan is right. I'm totally with them on this one. And It's completely understandable that you feel that way, but seriously, you never know. They might like the same stuff as you.

I'm not really into that show, the Jersey Shore, or really anything on mtv, but when it comes to music, I gotta say, I listen to really everything! I love music. I'll listen to music from the 50's all the way up to some (key word: some) of the music of today. However, a lot of times, I will admit that when it comes to most of todays music, I think, "Wow! They really put no thought into those lyrics. They aren't deep at all.".

    We must have standards and
Most people dont. Never ever sell yourself short. Trust your judgment completely.

I agree with the comment above mine. I'm also assuming no one in the entire world will comment on your post within the next few minutes... It's human nature to judge others. Try getting to know someone first. I make awkward first impressions, and I know people judge me when I say things like, "I'm going to kick that baby in the face if it doesn't stop crying." I would never actually do that, and I guarantee someone reading this didn't find an ounce of sarcasm or humor in what I just said. It's understandable though, because they don't know me.

What you like is what you like. Why worry? But you never know they may like the same things your into. Why not ask them or introduce them to new stuff? :]

Well, I personally don't have much interest in women who watch jersey shore or similar things. They (the shows) just come across as so dumb... pointless. Also, even though this is an exceedingly small group of people in my age range, I can't stand girls who watch soap operas. People who watch garbage like that... sometimes just come across as... well, almost as dumb as the shows themselves.

  • me too. And I'm a girl. If a guy likes those type of shows or the music on the radio it's a huge turn off. originality is a major turn on!

I wont completely dismiss them.. it just knocks their initial "cool factor" down a notch.

  • wtf, they can have their own opinion on what they like without you turning your back on them..
