Is it normal that this doesn't make sense to me?

Why is it okay for girls to make out and have "girl crushes" and talk about how pretty other girls are, but that isn't socially acceptable for guys? I just really don't get it. Either it should be weird for everyone or normal for everyone.

    • Even then you have to deal with "You two are so gay", as if to say being homosexual is a bad thing, and that people shouldn't have "bromance" due to the rsik of being homosexual.

      • Because most straight guys don't like gay men, they say they're cool with it but that's just to appear tolerant. It's fairly obvious, but it won't change. There will always be sexism, racism and homophobia in the world. I don't hate gays, but i certainly would prefer it if everyone were straight as them being gay isn't something i understand. I assume it's similar for many men.

  • Women get away with too much lately

    Women kissing - acceptable
    Guys kissing - unacceptable

Women wearing men's clothes - acceptable
Men wearing women's clother - unacceptable

Women hitting men - acceptable (in some cases even encouraged)
    Men hitting women - unacceptable

Women making fun of men, discriminating men = modern, smart, strong , emancipated women
Men making fun of women = sexist pigs, mysoginists, assholes

....and the list could go on

  • Unfortunatly, there are many double standards like this. Don't worry, us men completely deserve it, don't we, girls? Yeah! Girl power! Men are to blame!

This really doesn't have much to do with what you said. And I can't answer your question because I wonder the same thing. But this reminded me of something that happened to me yesterday. I told this new girl at my work that I think shes very pretty. She looked at me funny and was like; "Oh. Thanks...". I think she thought I was a lesbian that was hitting on her or something. It was really awkward. I was just trying to be nice, and she really was pretty.

  • IT is a double standard like the fact a guy can fuck multiple women just for the hell of it and if a girl will do that to random guys she is a whore.

      Maybe in 1955.

      I consider a sexually-empowered woman a blessing to society.

I don't think it is social acceptable in all cases for girls to have girl crushes, and I don't think it's unacceptable in all cases for guys to have the same. I see your point but it isn't as black and white as "it's okay for girls but not guys".

If a man kisses a man it's seen by some people as somehow emasculating, it makes him less of a man and more of a girl because he's attracted to masculine traits. That's because there's an assumption that some people have that if you're with a guy (whether you're a girl or a guy) you must be somehow submissive to him, and if you're a man with a man that makes you seem weak.

With girls it's different, because being attracted to feminine traits is seen more as appreciating and respecting their beauty than submitting to their dominance, their strength. It's even seen by some people as admirable because it goes squarely against bitchiness to be able to appreciate another girl's beauty. It's all to do with the complex way in which people process gender roles and the science of attraction. I don't pretend to understand it and I don't have the energy to try and think it out now. Thinking things out is for the middle of the night, that way I can forget it by the morning :P

I once met a teenage boy who had beautiful eyes (blue brown color gradient). But of course I didn't compliemt him on it, because I would have looked like a total creep. However if a woman told a girl how pretty she's looking, nobody would judge.
Thats because most people think if a man likes something it means he wants to f**k it.

What the fuck are you talking about?
I've never found guys kissing guys socially unnaceptable, and neither have my friends.

It's not about your anecdotal experience, it's about society in general.

It's called a double standard and part of said standard is that men have to keep a certain sense of morality and emotional reservation whilst, for women, it is much more lenient.

In my little mind of minds, this implies to me that women are seen as too weak or unintelligent to be held to said system of morality. Not to mention that it is OK for women to be weak and emotional but men can't be. Because they are better than that and women can't be, right?

Believe me when I say, the double standard is stupid. Men are humans, women are humans, pure and simple.

In some cases, if you're a guy and you're willing to admit you find some men attractive, it can make you look cooler. Whenever you're able to state your opinion without worrying what other people think it's going to make you look more confident in yourself.

I thnk its normal, its just the way you compliment a guy. If youre like oh you look cool today, or you look nice or blah thats okay, but if youre like oh em gee you look hot, thats gay. lol I literally heard two guys talking about this the other day and thats what they said. lol.

Yes, I think it's normal that it doesn't make sense. I'm not sure about the girl's making out and girl crushes being all-around acceptable, but you are right about girls having more social acceptability when they compliment eachother.

The wierd thing is that I don't know how this started. I guess the only way to change it is to organize a large group of men to go around complimenting other men until it becomes a trend that is also recognized as socially acceptable.
