Is it normal that this boy stares at me?

This boy in my class always calls me names but then later on he tells me good luck when I'm playing softball! I don't get it! Then we have the same lunch together and he wont stop staring at me. And when I catch him looking at me he takes a while to look away. But then when I go back to class the next day he's back to calling me names in front of everybody. Hes cute and sweet at times but sometimes I yell at him to leave me alone. I bate it when people call me names. I don't know what to think? P.s. if he asked me out, I would definitely say yes! :D but then I would ask him why he asked me out considering hes been nothing but mean to me.
