Is it normal that thinking about fictional characters helps me sleep?

I tend to get stressed a lot. Because of this issue I sometimes have problems falling asleep at night since I keep worrying about problems in my life. In order to not have to think about the things in my own life that cause stress for me I think about fictional characters from novels I've read and TV shows I've watched. I tend to make up stories about these characters in my head. Sometimes when I feel that characters from TV shows I watch don't have enough of a backstory I make up my own backstories about them. Other times when I feel that a character from a novel has a very sad life I make up a happy ending for him/her. Usually I fall asleep in the middle of a story I'm making up about a character.

I do the same thing, though I don't just do it when I'm lying in bed - I spend the majority of my free time imagining scenarios about my favorite movie characters. My life is boring and they help make it feel more exciting/magical.

I do the same thing. Some people count sheep, but thinking about television shows or stories I've read do the trick for me.

When I'm trying to fall asleep or doing anything that gives me too much time to think I often do something similar to you. I make up stories in my head, usually with made up characters but sometimes I make up stories with characters who already exist.

I'd say yes, at least for me. I don't do it as much as I used to, and I didn't/don't do it to get away from problems. It just keeps me from getting bored until I fall asleep. If you visualize whats happening, it can often turn into a dream and thus help you sleep.
