Is it normal that the word "life" bothers me?

It's a little wierd, but I don't like it when people use the word "life" . Sometimes it's ok, in certain situations, but most of the time it bothers me a bit.
It's not anything serious, like I don't cringe every time I hear it. But it's kind of funny and it started probably less than a year ago, before I was fine with it and even used it myself sometimes.

That doesn't sound normal to me, but can you give a specific example?

      "My life is..."
      "Life is like..."
      "It happens often in life..."
and many quotes using life are kind of annoying too.
I wouldn't use phrases like these.

But ones that don't bother me might be something like
"It's a matter of life and death"
      "There is life on earth"
      "You're a lifesaver!"

Hmm, sounds like you don't like it when it is used in a overused cliche type of way. That's normal :)

Yes, it does sound weird. I know exactly how you feel but its hard to explain. Its like, if you were watching a cartoon and hear a cartoon character say something like, "cartoons suck!" you will ask yourself, wtf? arent you a cartoon character? How can a cartoon be talking about being a cartoon? I also think you mean that using the word life is as if we are not within life itself and talking about a whole new dimension. I hope that makes sense.

That's an interesting way to look at it. And it does make sense.

Perhaps the French and Deutsch words for LIFE might help a bit [and learn if others are interested in "foreign" languages]:

    1. Vie
    2. Leben

I'm the same when people say "Cripes, Cadwallader and heavens to Betsy! Cor, my sainted trousers. My old man's a biscuit".

Of course not. Nobody in Britington speaks like that. It's a crude approximation made by those who seek to traduce the good name of Blighty!

haha, that's funny. I can see how that would be annoying :)
