Is it normal that the word bitch makes me go crazy?

I'm a rather normal rational person, but whenever I hear the word bitch, I go nuts...my stomach tenses, I get a lump in my throat like I'm gonna cry, & my head gets all hot and hurts. Idk why this happens, but hearing the word bitch just makes me so upset...

While it's normal to take offense at vulgarity, it's probably not that common to do so specifically at the word 'bitch' and with such intensity.

In your defense, however, black people take severe offense to the "N word", as it's is very offensive and degrading to them. The same might apply to the "B word" with you. It's likely you or someone you care deeply for has been called this frequently to the point of verbal abuse and you, by extension, have naturally associated it with that dark chapter in the victim's life.

Another possibility exists. That being the "truth hurts" condition. It's often the case that when insulted with things that are either truthful or perceived to be truthful that one is hurt the most and thus takes the greatest offense. Calling an obese child "fatty" would be an example of this. It's very possible that you perceive this undesirable trait in yourself, and when confronted with the word take immediate and strong offense to it as a result to the extreme effect it has on you. Your reaction to the word undoubtedly helps to cement this opinion of you in the accuser, thus doubtlessly compounding the problem.

This is just speculation on my part however as I lack further information as to the circumstances surrounding this.

In conclusion, no, it's not normal because it's pretty specific with an intense reaction. Although it is perfectly natural to take offense to vulgarity, especially if that vulgarity means more to you than just a string of letters forming a word. No worries though, while I doubt it's a majority view, you're definitely alone.

Oh, and just in case you misinterpret anything I've said: I don't believe the "B word" applies to you at all, as you seem nice enough.

I hope you never associate with dog breeders. You will learn very quickly that "bitch" has a valid use.

As for being called a bitch... for me it all depends on who is doing it.

If it is being used in a friendly manner then it's fine. If it's someone being a jerk then it's not OK.

Then again I also use the C word for girls who "can't understand normal thinking".

    =)
