Is it normal that the manager of my apartments comes in my home every

I bought a puppy a little over a year ago and put down a 500 dollar deposit so I could keep her. After I gave my manager the money, she claimed that she had to come "check" every other month to make sure there were no rips in the carpet from my dog or smell of urine. Does she have the right to do this? She claims that it's the owners idea, but she seems to be a habitual liar so Im not sure whether I believe her or not. My father and I pay rent to live in our apartments AND I gave her a deposit so I am not sure why she has to continue to snoop. Should I address this to the owner?

I live in an apartment and unfortunately, she has the right. The owner of the building is essentially that, the owner. You have certain rights as a renter but the owner has every right to ensure that you are not damaging what is essentially her property, and the manager is basically a tool that she can use to carry this out.

Now if this is upsetting you, I would first go to your renters contract which you should keep a copy of in your apartment at all times and look up the procedures for owning a pet. If you don't see anything in it about monthly inspections, then I would speak to the owner about this to ensure that it is absolutely necessary. She does have the right to ensure that you are not destroying her property whether or not you pay rent or pay a deposit, however, she may not know of how strict the manager is being.

That sounds annoying, but she does have the right. I HATED renting and I hated our landlords. They were nosey! Now my husband and I are in the position where we think we want to rent our house. Thinking of the things we would and wouldn't allow has made me realize why our landlords acted the way they did. They just want to make sure their property is intact. I will do the same. But even though we have a big great dane, we're not allowing tenants to have pets. We've seen what one of our friends and his wife did to an apartment and I'm for sure saying NO!

NeuroNeptunian has pretty much said everything, but this lady could use some nice little crosswords. Why don't you give her as a gift next time she comes around? Luckily she'll get addicted to it and will stop bugging you.
