Is it normal that the dog gets treated better than me?

I love the family dog to death but it's just so frustrating most of the time. the dog gets to ride in the car and has a special bench so she can be more comfortable. I'm expected to make dinner to my father's satisfaction before work every day, the dog gets scraps and warm food every night. my dad bought a special heater for the dog house so she could be cozy in the winter when she has to sit alone for a few hours when I'm at university. I have to walk on a ledge above a staircase to turn on my room's heater without a thermometer on it. the dog gets fresh air whenever she wants but the latch on my window has been broken for years. if a repair man ever comes close to the house, my dad chases them off. i suppose i could get a place of my own but i don't have the funds right now. does anyone else have this problem?

    I think the person was using the dog as an example of how he/she gets treated by her/his father
    And not about the dog getting its own heater and such

    Dogs get treated better than people in most households with responsible families. However, it sounds like you're being neglected and that isn't right. You need to confront your father and explain to him that you don't deserve to be treated like Meg. I suggest using dinner as collateral for being treated more fairly.

      I agree, it was like this for me then I moved out for a year. Then they all saw how much it sucks to cook three meals a day and keep a house clean. They were begging me to come back...

          Yeah, because now I have free rent and everything is paid for when I need it. :) They had to change, because they REALLY couldn't handle living without me. Of course I'm leaving again for good this time at the end of the school year and moving out west. All of which they are also paying for.

    if you were the family cat i would understand but it would seem you are being neglected, i suggest poisoning the dog

    So let me understand this...

    You're mad that you have to cook and do chores while the dog doesn't have to do any housework?

    What's your point? It's a dog, you're a human.
    You have the means to make your own life better while the dog is dependent on the people for everything.

    If you dislike this you can always get a job to save up for moving out.
    The dog however has no such options

    well it is a dog, it is not expected to behave and respect the boundaries a person has to respect in order not to be considered, well a misbehaving pricky arsehole.
    example: if a dog pisses on your rug you just yell in it give it a few hits with a newspaper and so forth but if a man does that, well, it is a whole different matter. Animals do not get hated as much as men do because they are not expected to be humans and to take part in the whole human struggle thing. In other words: your dog gets treated not just because it is not human but because it is not a threat to established social roles and hierachies. Everything is seen as an attack on one authority when another human being crosses a territorial limit but it is not the same with animals. Humans are territorial animals who rarely become too territorial towards, housepets, they are likely to benmore territorial towards other human beings... I think that explains a lot.
