Is it normal that step family shouldn't be considered family?

I don't think stepparents, stepchildren, and stepsiblings should be considered family. The people that should be family to you are: your parents, siblings (bio or adopted), your children (bio or adopted), as well as uncles, aunts, grandparents, cousins, nieces, nephews, pets, and friends (friends are the family you choose). Step-anything should never count.

I'd only agree with this if you really hate them.

I have a bunch of blood related cousins, uncles, and aunts that I honestly don't consider family due to the fact that we hardly ever see each other. I consider my stepsister family because I grew up with her and we're still pretty close.

What about the freaking Brady Bunch? They weren't real brothers and sisters but step brothers and sisters.

    Why?
Why are they less to you?
